'Hedgehog Close' was a short 2' film produced for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and launched at the beginning of Hedgehog Week 2017. The film suggests ways in which we can all help hedgehogs , illustrating them in a creative and charming way, with some humour. I wanted to experiment with stop frame animation and immerse the viewer into a nocturnal model world.

The project was a lengthly one, around six months from start to finish but the hard work paid off. To date, the film has had well over a million views and won three awards including 'People's Choice' in the Charity Film Awards. Hopefully it has also encouraged many more hedgehog highways to be built around the country!

The model street was built from cardboard, wood and real foliage. Small LED lights were incorporated into the models to add realism and interest. Once complete, the lighting was critical in bringing the houses and gardens alive and adding depth. The hedgehog sequences themselves were carefully scripted and timed to ensure the sequences would cut together and provide a narrative.

The film is still gathering views and is also being used within schools as an educational tool.
